27 rue Jacob. Scenography

It is at 27 rue Jacob, in the historic building of the bookpublisher "le Seuil", that the publishing houses have settled Les Arènes and L’Iconoclaste et les revues XXI and 6 mois. On the ground floor, a space of 140 m2 devoted to the publications of the four houses hosts a bookshop and numerous events, but also the reception of the editions located on the floors. The furniture, which I designed as a stack of crates of books, depths and different sizes, arranged along the walls of the floor to the ceiling, is fully modular and adapts to the versatility of the place. Blond and black, refined, it contrasts with the eclecticism and variety of the works presented. Made of birch multipliers, a simple and industrial material that evokes the book factory, the crates, both storage and presentation support, stage the books, rhythm and set the space according to the events. The visual identity, sober and monochrome, imagined by the Studio Des Signes, punctuates the place of poetic formulas around the book. The ensemble forms a customised identity system that is declined from the layout of the space to the communication media and responds to the particular spirit of 27 rue Jacob.
